Cassandra Clare Writes For YA Literature in The Wall Street Journal

Cassandra Clare recently wrote an article for the Wall Street Journal on YA fiction and the need it fills for youth:

“Being a teenager is being caught between two worlds, occupying a liminal space where you’re not quite a child and not quite an adult. The concept of adolescence is a modern one — in earlier times, teenagers would be marrying, fighting and dying like adults, and today’s teens yearn for that adult power (making your own decisions!), while at the same time being afraid of it (enormous responsibilities come with adulthood). These days, adolescence is considered training wheels for adulthood, a time through which you must be guided and protected from too much autonomy.

But like any other training wheels, the training wheels of adolescence are irksome and teens can’t wait to get rid of them — to get on that bike and ride. The category of young adult fantasy books reflects that tension. In many YA fantasies, there is a hidden world, usually secret from ordinary people and most adults, where magic reigns and the kids are the ones with the power.”

What do you guys think? Is this how you feel about Cassie’s books and other YA lit you’ve read?

My favorite part of the article comes at the end, when the culmination realizes that YA is not just for youth, but adults as well!

Jamie Campbell Bower Drops His Pants…A Lot

This is a hidden little interview done a few weeks ago by Daily Record in the UK. Jamie talks about Harry Potter, Twilight, Camelot and Anonymous. Then there was this part about his childhood:

“”I always wanted to be the centre of attention,” he admitted. “My mum tells me that I interrupted one of her dinner parties because no one was listening to me. I got up on her table, dropped my pants and mooned everyone.”

Jamie is clearly a popular new face on the movie scene and he’s set to be a huge household name once Mortal Instruments comes out next year.

Like Twilight and Harry Potter, it’s based on supernatural books, with Jamie the demon-fighter Jace, who falls for mortal teenager Lily Collins.

“This was a big deal for me,” said Jamie. “To put their trust in me and give me that role is very humbling.”"

How funny is that? I was laughing so hard when the article went on to say “Jamie’s bare bottom has been making a comeback lately – ” Hee!

I had to add the portion about ‘Mortal Instruments even though we’ve heard it before. I also believe someone should inform these peeps that Clary is not just a ‘mortal teenager’….what the frack?

Jamie Campbell Bower and Rhys Ifans ‘Anonymous’ Interview

Wow Jamie…theatricality has more syllables than you own hairbrushes!!! This is a fun interview, you can tell they have become good friends in making ‘Anonymous’. However, I would have liked to hear more from Jamie Campbell Bower. Shut it Rhys!!! Kidding. The interviewer could have given JCB more time. Just sayin.

Jamie Campbell Bower Interview Video from Monacco

If I had a nickel for every time he said ‘classy’. Some fans are mentioning JCB’s resemblance to Johnny Depp in this interview….perhaps mannerism? My jury is still out. Depp does not talk that fast :D

Jamie Campbell Bower Interview With Mr Porter

LOVE this interview with MrPorter. Jamie talks about ‘Camelot’ and ‘Sweeny Todd’. I really enjoyed the descriptions made by Mr Porter as well. When asked about ‘Camelot’?

“It’s boys with their toys: sword fights, horseback riding, the medieval full monty. I did all my own stunts – other than one 125-foot fall that I wasn’t allowed to do – although I did break my ankle at one point. That hurt.”

Holy Jace comment. It’s just a broken ankle, walk on whimps. Hee!

Who loves the shmexy pics? *fans self*

Jamie Campbell Bower Interview on ‘Twilight’ and ‘Camelot’

Did he just say Boot Camp? So…there’s ‘Camelot’ Arthur Boot Camp, and then there will be ‘Mortal Instruments’ Jace Boot Camp. Ha!

I don’t know how I missed this interview, but it’s been out awhile. In case you missed it, I’ve posted it. He is quite endearing here, I’m really starting to love JCB! (For all of you who knew about this interview and didn’t tell me? Doom on you. How could you???? *wipes tear*)

Jamie Campbell Bower Talks ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Twilight’ Wrap

In a not so recent interview by  AccessHollywood.com, Jamie Campbell Bower was asked about being a part of two huge franchises. He explained that it is wonderful, but that it is ‘work’. As in, his job, not necessarily sweat-busting work :D I love how he explains what he chooses to do:

“Above anything, all I want to do is be involved in things that I believe are great stories… As long as it’s a good story to me, I’m going to be interested in it.”

Wouldn’t you love to see him tell a good story on the side of the street? hee.

PS Who else is excited about the Potter museum? Totally off-topic, but that was awesome to hear! Sorry you couldn’t steal a wand though friend…too bad.

Jamie Campbell Bower in ‘Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1′ Trailer

Don’t blink. It’s super fast, but our Jamie Campbell Bower is looking as ‘bored’ as ever, playing Caius of the Volturi in this Breaking Dawn Part 1 Trailer.

And the screencap, Jamie….got a ‘hitch in your get-along’ there buddy? :D

I try not to think too much about it, but how beautiful is the transition…from one AMAZING ‘Twilight’ franchise to another ‘Mortal Instruments’. *fans back the tears* It is truly fantastic! So happy and excited to be a part of both.
