Cassandra Clare has answered more questions about Jemima West. I KNEW you needed these deets as well!
“Will Jemima dye her hair/wear contacts to play Isabelle?”
She will surely dye her hair. Contacts probably, but some people/actors can’t wear them (Daniel Radcliffe never could, that’s why Harry always had blue-green eyes, allergies I think) so I cannot make promises about stuff that is basically “the costume department’s decision down the road in connection with the actor’s physical limitations.” I am assured they will do everything they can to make the actors fit the physical descriptions in the book, where appropriate.
“What was Jemima’s audition like?”
Really good! She did a scene with Clary, but she also did the scene where she talks about Alec being gay — “I love my brother, I’d do anything for him, but I can’t help him with this” and was lovely and passionate. I was like, That’s damn right, you love your brother! He’s a good guy! She convinced me.
Everyone calm now? Just like Cassie has always said, as close to the book as possible and passionate auditions! Can’t WAIT!!
Where the frack are everyone ELSE???? Well, I will tell you! Looks like they are working on contracts. Yipee!
For those asking about all the other parts: there are actors under serious consideration for every major part at this point. Just because Alec and Isabelle’s contracts got finished first doesn’t mean they aren’t in the middle of casting everyone else.

Poor Cassie. I really feel bad for her. I mean, all of us are tortured and raw at this point…imagine if you were the creator of all of this and you couldn’t tell??? It’s gotta be bitter. Here’s what she had to say on her Tumblr:
Tweeting “die in a fire” at me is not going to help, though trust me I know why you feel the way you do. I am just as frustrated; I have ripped out all my hair this past hour and now I look like a golf ball.
Basically, I got a call from the studio that Alec and Izzy were confirmed and to go ahead and blog about it. I got through blogging Izzy and got a call saying “Hold off on Alec.” So I waited, and I just got off the phone again and basically: I can’t tell you who Alec is because — well, I don’t entirely know why, but it has to do with his schedule, and telling could get a bunch of people shot.
Or something. I am not entirely sure; Hollywood moves like molasses except when it moves like gunpowder and calls me back halfway through a Tumblr post. Do NOT stay up waiting for this news: it could actually be a few days, though I am going to be optimistic and hope for shorter.
Somebody send the woman a hat!
The bad news: no Alec news this second.

I found this tweet to be very interesting. Now if you recall way back on October 13th I did a cast request for Phoebe Tonkin as Isabelle Lightwood. One that was met with a lot of positive feedback. Phoebe had a run on CW with Secret Circle which apparently has been canceled. Could she be gearing up for an audition? Perhaps she’s already gone in for one. ..
Not to start the rumor mill..this confirms nothing except the fact that she is going to start reading the books, but the optimistic fangirl in me who would LOVE to see her as Izzy can’t help but wonder if there was a reason she tweeted this for all to see!

Because my ask box is crazy full of questions about this — yes, there have a few (well, one that I know of) articles saying Jamie Campbell-Bower isn’t attached to the City of Bones movie any more.
Jamie is perplexed.
I was perplexed by the rumors as well but I wanted to take the time to check them out completely; I knew they were negotiating Jamie’s contract, but I can tell you after major thorough checking — yes, 100% he is Jace; Lily is ecstatic, I am, the whole team at Constantin is; Jamie has a trainer, he’s been working out six days a week and drinking protein shakes and by all tales told to me looks terrific.
Stephanie, our casting director, is actively casting the rest of the roles — that means auditions, lists of actors, the whole shebang; I got a peek at some lists and was really excited. You never know how things will shake out, but there were some great actors suggested. I’m excited they’re going to audition.
In sum: Jamie is Jace, nothing has changed, sometimes there are weird rumors on the Internet, I try to be there for you to confirm or deny when I can — if I don’t answer right back it’s because I don’t know and I’m checking.
Well there you have it peeps, from Cassandra herself. Jamie is Jace and the rumors can be put to rest. I have seen lots of comments on our site alone surfacing about Jamie no longer being our Jace and I for one am so happy that it is just in fact a rumor!
We are steadily approaching the one year anniversary of when Jamie was cast, and in that year I have totally gotten on board the Jamie train! I can’t wait until next summer when we can all sit back in those cushy movie theater chairs and be struck speechless by what an amazing job he does. I just know he can do it , we will all be happy and wonder how we could have ever doubted him!!

It’s quite a day for us! But it’s hard to underestimate how important a release date is for a film. The only bigger deal is actually starting shooting at which point … you really have a movie.
As I told MTV, Harald (our director, so we might as well all start thinking of him on a first name basis) is putting his production team together. They just hired Francois Seguin as production designer. Francois is incredibly talented and awesome, just was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the Borgias, and it is his job to make everything look amazing and beautiful. Francois, Harald and the production team are scouting for locations this week … so if you’re in Toronto and/or New York … you might see them searching for the Institute.
We have a casting director, too, Stephanie, and there’s a definite concentration on European and British actors for the Shadowhunters, which I like as it underlines the feeling that they are not quite like the culture that surrounds them. That doesn’t apply to Simon of course, so favorites floating around like a certain guy whose name starts with A and another guy whose name starts with L are not off the table. *
*I’m really not supposed to talk about casting. They’ll make me live in a brick igloo. Since everyone is asking me about Playlist saying Jamie isn’t attached, they have been saying that for a while. I do not know why. It isn’t what I have heard, and that is honestly all I know.

Ah my friends. Here we are again, bundling up in a blanket of Cassie warmth as she calms all of our fan-soles with matters of TMI movie. Cassie has recently posted a lengthy and comprehensive reminder to all of us that the way things are right now, are simply the way they are. Concerning the progress of the movie:
“Now, I am not saying “Everyone calm down! They will make the City of Bones movie!” Because, TBH, I have no more idea than anyone else whether they will make it. I have always tried, and I genuinely apologize if I was misleading, to be clear that — as it says on my website — they are developing the book as a movie project and the movie isn’t greenlit.
(“Greenlit”: meaning, the studio has signed off on making this film and they are rolling cameras.)
That doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Things continue to happen, chugging along behind the scenes, but either the sort of things I’ve been asked not to talk about (and trust me, you don’t care — no one out there is hanging around wondering breathlessly “Have they costed this film yet?”), or the kind of things I don’t know about because I am like fiftieth down on the food chain of finding out about anything.”
This is just a tiny excerpt. Please, please, PLEASE go to her tumblr to read ALL of it! There is much to learn concerning casting, Jamie Campbell Bower and the process of making a movie from Books. My heart was hurt when reading between the lines at the reasons Clare felt she had to address certain issues. Sad face. I will take this opportunity to piggy-back on Clare concerning Alex Pettyfer. I do not post any Alex anymore because he was not cast. (Just FYI for those of you that submit work with him, now you understand why I don’t promote it). So….I’m BEGGING you to GO READ IT NOW!!!! And let’s all remember to be the best flipping fan-base this universe can muster!
