'Mortal Instruments' to Open Alongside Lionsgate's 'You're Next'

So I reported it. Kinda how I feel right now, some people are thinking this is news for our ‘Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ movie. It is a horror flick opening the same weekend. It may as well be animated…Smurf’s Part 2. Totally different thing going on here and I was so hoping for real competition! :)

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ has its first competitor for its August 23, 2013 opening. Lionsgate will debut its horror film ‘You’re Next’ against Sony’s hopeful franchise hit.

Where ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ has supernatural villains, ‘You’re Next’ delivers real life fears. See synopsis below.

In YOU’RE NEXT, during a family reunion getaway, the Davison family comes under a sadistic attack. When Crispian Davison (Bowen) brings his new girlfriend (Vinson) along to celebrate the wedding anniversary of his parents (Moran and Crampton), the family’s evening together is shattered when a gang of mysterious killers begin to hunt the family down with brutal precision. Unfortunately for the killers however, one of the victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.

‘You’re Next’ was screened at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.

It was solid at the TIFF, so it has legs. Who’s excited to see it….like AFTER you’ve seen ‘Mortal Instruments’ 48 times…Oooobbbvvviioussssllyyy. :P

I was thinking the same thing and glad that Hunger Games came out a different time. It is a totally different movie but at the cost of movies if they both came out together I think TMI would suffer. Not because it isn’t better, because it will be, but because of the cost of going to a movie.

I’m getting kind if tired of them promising this horror movie will be great and scary and they suck! Lol. I want some REAL horror. Oh well. As for the competition this is actually a good thing. If they released it at the same time as the second hunger games movie for instance the movie probably would fail. Not because it sucks, but because hunger games has already made a name for itself people will be more likely to chose that one to go see on the weekend instead. If they DID decide to release it at the same time as another popular hit, that might actually be a good thing too, because that means they’re getting daring, and that the movie might actually be pretty good. :) of course they dont always control film release schedules, but most of the time they usually can. Depends.
