The description we are given of Raphael in City of Bones:
a boy not much older than Jace and probably six inches shorter. He was thin-boned, with the big dark eyes and honey-colored skin of a Diego Rivera painting.
Now that I have reread the description of Raphael I realize that in my mind I was picturing him a lot younger than he was supposed to be. It states not much older than Jace who by all accounts is 17, so we can pick somoene around the same age as Lily and Jamie.
So here are some more of the guys we wouldn’t mind as Raphael. Funny how I never even gave the casting of this character much thought yet he is in every film much like Magnus!

Just found out that there’s not going to be a Rapheal in the City of Bones movie, if he was going to be in it i think he should have been played by Jake T. Austin…
I always pictured Diego Luna( in ‘Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights’) as Raphael, in my head. Lol
I don’t even care that he’s probably considered “too old” now, because of what Raphael is the actor has to be able to act the older-than-he-appears- side of Raphael as well and not many a younger actor can really pull that off quite right, Diego Luna still looks relatively young-faced and with makeup( – not to mention the CG – ) these days…it probably isn’t as farfetched as it may seem. :}
I think Avan would be a better Raphael, mostly because he has awesome hair, and I picture Raphael as having awesome hair. xD Also, he is far more attractive than the first guy. <3
The fact that he's from Victorious scares me, though… Victorious is a cool show and all, but thinking of its general audience, I seriously don't want City of Bones to be another kiddie attraction like another book-to-film that's been quite popular in recent years… Okay, yeah, I mean Twilight. Call me picky, or hoggish, but it's just my opinion. xP
It would be the best thing EVER if Avan got casted for Raphael… i like him.
A couple of years ago, I decided to create my own fan-cast of most of the TMI characters. And I must admit that I chose Avan Jogia as my Raphael. I think he is hot, and he has great hair. I have only seen him act in that Nick movie, Rags, but he wasn’t bad in that. And, if people want to draw in more of a variety of an audience besides lovers of the books, then at least some known actors would be cast. And Avan has the ability to draw in the Victorious lovers. I think he should at least be a contender.
I am seriously only into white guys, so the reason I never pictured Raphael good looking is because of that fact, however, in the general sense, YES I pictured a generally good looking kid. Just because he’s a vampire he shouldn’t automatically be creepy. True Blood’s vampires are creepy yes, but they’re sexy as alll hell!!!! LOL
Remember that most “main stream” vampires are considered sexy. This isn’t Dusk Till Dawn, this is a YA novel, so… more likely to be mainstream vampires. The first kid looks waaayyy too young, and seriously looks like he’s straight from Venezuela. I pictured Raphael more Puerto Rican or Spanish. Not Mexican. Most puerto Ricans I know are from NY. So Avan is my pick.

hahaha! No I saw your post on the other thing about Raphael and I have to agree. So many people frustrate me because they continuously forget that there are many… MANY different dialects of “Spanish” I like say “Spanish” when someone looks like the “Original” Spaniard. And I’ll just say someone looks mexican if they look mexican, not spanish, because technically it’s not the correct term. I grew up around A LOT of Puerto Ricans, since I was a little kid, and you are right. There are A LOT of Puerto Ricans in NY, So I agree. Raphael has to either look Spanish, or Puerto Rican, because that’s mainly what form of Hispanics that populate NY (Bronxe, Brooklyn, etc) It will be more realistic and convincing if they did that. But… this is Hollywood, so… can’t count on that. The only movies you can count on that with are Oscar Films like Schindler’s list or something. This movie wont be taken that seriously…. unfortunately. Obviously if they’re making our American speaking characters sound british when CC never said they were british. That really has me annoyed. I get that they are originally from another country, but I think that if CC wanted them to have accents she would’ve made that clear in the books, she made it clear in ID. And realistically speaking, not one New Yorker would not noticed a couple of British teenagers running about. They would stand out like a sore thumb. So not only did we not picture them with accents, they are seriously seriously not thinking through on their decisions for this film. I’m sorry but they really aren’t.
I’d rather chosen Jose Julian. I’d read COB a long time ago but I think Raphael was kind of creepy and I’d never pictured him as handsome at all.
Im goin for Avan, He looks more mature. Jose looks like he’s 11. Avan is also way more attractive and he could definitely play raphael the way i pictured him.
i definitely like the top guy better for Raphael. the bottom guy is definitely cuter but i didn’t picture him as cute at all really. and i think the top fits the image in my head better.
If they cast Avan they could probably get some younger fans for the series too because he is on Victorious. I think Avan.

like i said in the last post, avan just doesn’t look hispanic to me at all, and i don’t know if i could picture him as raphael because of that. but if he were to get cast, i guess i’d have to try. *shrug*

Because he looks more like Spanish to me than Peurto Rican, Mexican or something like that. And Raphael would not be Mexican, not that there are absolutely no mexicans in New York or anything, but it’s mainly Puerto Rican hispanics that live in New York. Think about the different dialects. He also could pass for Italian too…

I thought Jamie was 5’11″? Well.. either way it doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s not like height is a HUGE matter, I mean it is, but it isn’t at the same time. Am I making sense? Damn. lol. LIke I would prefer if Lilly was onlu 5’0″ instead of 5’5″ but like I said, it’s not THAT important. so the height difference is half a an inch? *shrugs* so what.
