This dark haired hottie is Diego Boneta. Born in Mexico City, he is 21 years old and I think he would make a decent Raphael. Even thought when I was reading the books I think they made him more like a young boy which would be kinda creepy. So who knows if they would stray from the book when it comes to age.
The only other kid I could think of was the little brother from Ugly Betty but he comes off a tad on the feminine side and it seemed to me that later on in the books Raphael is described as looking tough in his black leather jacket. So what do you guys think of this suggestion? Does he look too old?? Or just not latin enough??

I like this guy, but i dont think he would work out as raphael. He looks too nice and too “pretty boy” to play him. But i think he’s a great actor, He was in rock of ages

its good to be home! but yes, u should see rock of ages, i loved it cuz i absolutely loove the 70′s and 80′s!! I new every song they sang!! haha. (specially the journey ones!!! lol
Magic Mike was horrible. Alex was in it but his part was so small and his acting was the way it always is..flat. But he didn’t have much to work with. As for the dancing, there wasn’t enough of it to make it worth the price of admission and the story line was all over the place and poorly written. So you did not miss much!!

diego is Mexican by birth but his mother is American and his father Mexican. His maternal grandparents are from Puerto Rico and Spain. The kids has the latin blood alright yet he speaks English without an accent! with Diego you have the best of both worlds!
i did not think about this guy for this role,…but i would love it if he was cast. I liked his other projects and would like to see him in something different like this:D
Ehhh, I pictured less “Spainish” and more “Puerto Rican”. There are a lot of Puerto Ricans in New York. At least there used to be when I lived there back when I was a kid. Haven’t lived there in so long I can’t really say for sure. And I say “Spainish” because for some stupid reason most Americans assume when you say Spanish that you immediately mean Mexican, Puerto Rican or even Cuban. NO! lol If I was talking about a Mexican, I would have said Mexican, if I was talking about a Puerto Rican I would’ve just said Puerto Rican. Spanish originates from Spain. There are very different dialects of the language because of this. LOL So I have to dumb myself down in order to get people to understand what I am talking about. It’s sad, really. Not that I am saying people on this site are dumb, I just prepare myself. LOL
Who cares what he is, he at least looks the part.

I do think he looks a bit older than I imagined Raphael, and not very Latino-looking, but as long as he is a good actor and works well with the rest of the cast I would be completely fine. I am extremely excited to find out the rest of the cast and for the movie to come out! I might go see it for my twin sister’s and my birthday! I can’t wait!
He looks like a pretty good Raphael. He looks a bit older than what I imagined though. I just can’t wait for more casting news!!! I was very happy with the casting of Simon, but now I just want to know the rest if the cast! Please let there be some casting news soon!!!

i’m not sure about avan, he’s the right age but he’s always looked distinctly hindu to me. but that might be because i’m latin american so i can distinguish hispanic people more easily.

Jake Austin is an good choice, Shiloh is like 26 years old and Tyler looks a but old too. I am going to run with what we got so far.

i like diego boneta, but i think he’s too pretty… as in boy band pretty… to play raphael. maybe it’s just because i’m latin american myself and i’m just too used to seeing him in teen telenovelas, so that’s why it’s hard for me to imagine him in a serious movie role. either way, i think he looks older than i ever pictured raphael being.
personally when i think of raphael, i kind of imagine someone like jose julian, the guy who played demian bichir’s son in the movie “a better life.” i don’t know how old he is, but he passed as a teenager in that film, and he looks more like your stereotypical mexican.
cool, I just checks him out on IMDB and he does look way younger and more ethnic to he would work too. I’m sure they already have an actor for the role I just wish they would let the rest of us know.
