Jamie seems like a very educated and engaging actor. He does his homework and creates the character. Let’s see how he does RE-creating Jace. We don’t want him altered Jamie!! I’ve only just recently read the series, and although JCB is a good actor, I didn’t picture Jace like him at all! I mean, I basically just got my image of him off the covers of the books but I really think that because in the books he is described as fricken sexy! I would have prefered Alex Pettyfer but he didn’t want the role which kinda sucks
Lilly Collins is good too, but not really the sort of person I would think of as Clary but we will see when the movie comes out! Can’t Wait!

At first I was not attracted to Jamie, but afer seeing the trailer he looked pretty sexy. Just give him a chance people never look the same in the movie as they do out of it.
How can you say that Jamie isn’t perfect for these movies. Alex wasn’t rumoured for the part was he? I love Jamie and think that he looks exactly how I pictured Jace to look. How can you say he would ruin the movie and that he isn’t the perfect person to play the part when you haven’t really seen him in anything before? Just think what all this hate is doing to him if he reads this.
He is perfect and I think he will play that part of Jace brilliantly. I for one will be the first in the queue for this film and so will all my friends. The books are brilliant and addictive and with Jamie in the movies they will be equally addictive.

I would have sooner cast Bower as Sebastian/Jonathan than Jace. His angular face structure is more how Jonathan (the real one) is described. I wouldn’t have given the part to Alex Pettyfer or Charlie Hunnam (wtf?) either. Personally, I don’t find Pettyfer’s face attractive and Charlie Hunnam is 32…FAR too old to play a 17 year old. (Come on guys, really.) I’d have gone with Austin Butler or with British actor Mitch Hewer (I lean toward Hewer). I try to take into account acting ability AND matching physical description. Bower can be a great actor all he wants. But the combed back long hair, very slender form, etc. just doesn’t fit Jace in my head.
I love Jamie as Jace. He’s hot, and he’s unique. Alex might have been good, but if you’ve seen Jamie in anything, you know he has it. I would take Jamie over Alex any day of the week.

I know, I want ALex or Charlie to be Jace, but you can’t just go around say someone is ugly, or their acting is crappy. If you were an actor and you came to this page and read, “She/He’s ugly! Their hair is AWFUL! Their too skinny!” If you read that about you, you would loose self confidence and not want to act – that would ruin you. Most of you judge by looks, “Aw, aw! Alex is hot – he is teh perfect Jace! SO adn so is ugly! They would suck!” Just how many of you would judge by acting and personality? Answer me that!
Sorry, I had to embarrass you… why do you want Charlie Hunman to be Jace? Because he’s attractive. So that’s number 1: you sound like a hypocrite. And secondly, actors DON’T come on these site, partly for the reason you touched base on, the reason they don’t come on this sites is because unlike us, they have LIVES. so that’s 2. @Andy…For someone you kept saying everyone needs a life and to stop posting crap, etc. You wrote like 3 paragraphs and wasted your so called “life”. Also by telling everyone to get over it and stop posting their opinion because it’s “water under the bridge” is you completely contradicting you’re statement of “people are intitled to an opinion”. She was just saying people should use other words to express themselves then the childish OMG you’re so ugly statments. Apparently sir you don’t know a metaphor when you see one.
One more thing. Remember they are actors. They change their appearance (lose weight, gain weight, hair color, etc. etc. etc.) for whatever role they have to. The way they look in person (Jamie on the streets of Toronto with Lily) is not how they look in character on set. It is really a shock when you see a lot of these people in person on just a day to day basis. They are almost unrecognizable. When all is said and done I think all of us will be really pleasantly surprised in a good way about Jamie’s transformation. And remember he is a fine and dedicated actor already at his young age. Fear not. It will be terrific.
My goodness a year has gone by and there is still all this discussion about Jamie. The movie is filming the cast is set and everyone is giving it their all. Try and remember Alex did not want the part, Alex is not at all a good actor, Alex is full of himself and would surely have made things difficult on set for the others with his ego. This is a known fact from others who have worked with him on other projects. Jamie may not have been your first choice but Alex would surely have been the wrong choice. This movie will be a hit, there will be others made and a strong cast and crew one that gets along and works well together will make it a hit.

She chose them for their acting ability. Also the actors whom you claim to be better may have or may have not tried out or wanted the role. Well… I’m okay with Jamie. Yeah, he’s not as super hot as Alex but he can act. He’s really good actor. And I don’t get all those peaople who hates him just because he has been cast in TMI. I was Alex Pettyfer fan too, but c’mon! Alex turn down the role and it’s not Jamie’s fault. Then why lots of people dislike him? Actually I feel sorry for Jamie. Not gonna lie, I was a little thrown-off when I first saw the rumours about Jamie Campbell-Bower playing Jace. But then, I gave that a few months to cool off, allowed time for the film situation to get more organised, and now Jamie is actually sort of growing on me. I didn’t think he was too much of a looker at first, certainly not as attractive as our Cassie made Jace seem in the book City of Bones, but I suppose it’s a bit like when you look at someone upon meeting them, and then really look at them again after knowing them for a while. Typically, they seem a bit cuter, right? I think, if he’s trained his body and bulked up a bit, Jamie’ll do just fine as Jace.
I don’t care what anyone says, i believe he is perfect for Jace. I think once they dress him up with the runes it will give him the edge that he needs for the role.

When Jamie was first cast as jace wayland my first thought was “WHAT!!!!!!” because I believed that he looked to feminine to act as jace with his small bone structure and small face but from then to now he’s actually starting to look like jace. His tan is perfect his eyes and hairdo color is spot on the only thing left to make him a jace would be to beef him up a little more. Stupid actors, when you actually want them to do a movie they don’t do it. I myself have adored the Mortal instruments and all of Cassandra Clare’s handiwork since the moment I picked up the book. It has been a priviledge reading it. But I seriously don’t understand how Lilly Collins is gonna play Clary. It’s gonna be seriously hard to make her a midget and get a Jocelyn to look just like her.
But I guess this move will turn out as it will turn out and I am just happy that they are actually making it into a movie. Lets hope it’s as good as The Hunger Games!

I am 14, today is my birthday:), and me and my friends hate Jamie for Jace. Thats just how it is, i think Alex Pettyfer, or Benjamin Stone would be perfect. Alex played in Beastly, where the mAin character has that cocky attitude like Jace. So therfore he has experience in that area. Jamie doesnt look at all like Jace. For everyone who has seen the cover for City of Lost Souls, THATS WHAT JACE SHOULD LOOK LIKE!!! Alex, and Benjamin fit that desciption!!! While Jamie might have the skills for this role, he also needs the looks. Thats a big part in Jace’s attitude. Jace knows he is hot. I Just think Alex would make the perfect Jace.

I think he will do great! i think AP is a great too, and would’ve been great but obviously, like everyone knows he turned down the role. i’m excited for magic mike too. It looks cute and funny like you said. Also is has Ap and channing tatum and hot guys in it. Also, I find Taylor Launter quite attractive. I’m sorry if I seemed pastagreesive in my other comments, but like you I’m opionated at times. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m also open to other people’s perspectives (depending on what it is. but I sometimes I don’t seem that way). You also seem open. Lol it’s okay, we’re all good now. And I am the oldest out I all my grandparent’s grandchildren so I an be pretty protect around kids, especially kids their age on here. I helped raised my cousin Victoria, and she’s 12 now. And very very smart for her age. I can it ever imagining treating her like she’s dumb, just because she’s 12. She’s a really smart kid, but she is still a kid, and love her very much
and yes I think AP would’ve been great too, but like you said he tuned it down, and we all have to live with that. Jamie is ugly and doesn’t match any of the details of jace except the fact that hes a boy. this movie is going to suck without Alex pettyfer. Hi. I don’t want to start anythingm how old are you? this child is eleven. if you’re a fan of jcb and fan of him as jace, awesome! I am too. but you shouldn’t be rude to a child okay. if you’re a child yourself,(and by child i mean 12 and under)., then I can understand that this might be how you handle it when this age and you’re talking to a child who is around the same age as you. Yes I also know that older human beings and younger children can disagree at times, telling them to “shuddup” is not the best way to handle an argument. (Espically if you’re 16. I’m 20 so I have some growing up to do, but I’ve learned some lessons. I know working with children can be rewarding and also challenging. (Espically with older children. Although each age group has its rewards and challenges.) Believe me, I have some knowledge on this. Just know that they have opinions too (even if they are at times egocentric, which is natural as a child, or do not always have the most knowledge). They are also quite capable. Also, I’m a huge fan of TMI. It’s awesome you are too.

Hi Bree. I think it’s great that you’re a fan of The Mortal Instruments. I am a huge fan too! I do however think you should give Jamie a chance. I love Jamie as Jace and I think he will be a great Jace, He has grown into his looks(do you know what that means? If you don’t, ask me and I’ll explain or ask someone else). He’s quite good looking now. He is a great actor and will be great as Jace. He’s also training for his role. Alex Pettyfer turned out the role. He would’ve have been great but he has moved on to other roles. I have no grudges against Ap, for moving on.(That means I’m not mad at him). Jamie might surprise you. Also you seem quite intelligent(smart). I’m older. I’m 20 years of age, but I was your age once which you know of course. I also have worked with kids you age and younger over the years and I’m training to be a teacher who works with young children. (This is different from being a school teacher. I’d be working in a day care).) I’m also working on being a writer.

Everyone keeps calling Alex a terrible actor, and I personally think that’s a narcissistic way of trying to make us all feel better that Alex turned it down. I’m not saying he would make a better Jace or not. We will never know for sure. I am just saying that he really isn’t a bad actor. It’s called bad scripts. Take it from someone who studies production. I don’t mean to sound like “Ohhhh I know it all” I am just saying that; in order to understand something, you should look into it first. #1 I AM Numbr 4 goes under the category as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Jumper etc. The acting is not a main concern in those kinds of films. Take it from someone who is a complete nerd and knows everything and a lot of things about SW and ST. Every nerd knows that. Action films really aren’t about acting, they’re are about franchise, and money. And besides, the plot itself was kind of dense, that doesn’t give Pettyfer much to go on, so his character was weakly written, and HE did not write the character.And lastly, I did not think his acting was bad anyways, I thought it was mediocre. #2 Beastly. Movie could have been A LOT better written. Again, not the best script. Some of Hollywood’s actors are FANTASTIC actors. Look at Tom Cruise, anyone remember him from Interview With A Vampire… WHOLY POOP ON A STICK!!! His acting was freaking INSANE!!! But now he picks all these girlie comedy chick flicks, weird bad roles like Minority Report, or Vanilla Sky. But he has definitely SHOWN potential that he can be an Oscar worthy actor. Pettyfer’s acting in Beastly was actually really good up until the witch curses him with ugliness. The whole plot became weak from that part in. Again, bad choice in script, and I think he knows that, that’s why he wasn’t very enthusiastic in interviews. #3 Tormented, I LOVE that movie, and I saw ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with his acting AT ALL in that movie. #4Alex Storm Break or whatever. That was just a dumb kid movie, really guys? Did you judge Paul Walker for Eight Below??? No I bet not. #5 IN TIME. Alex’s part was small, but for a small part he did a WONDERFUL job. And that movie was EPIC!!!! Nuff said!!!
It looks cute, and funny, and I hate Channing Tatum. I think I am the first girl within a 100 miles who does not find him attractive. Just had to throw that in there. But do you really want a bad actor? How about Taylor Lautner? That kid looks like he has had botox done, and he can barely smile let alone any facial expression. I’m sorry, but I am not a fan AT ALL! So remember this when you think about production next time….
Now lastly we have Magic Mike. I cannot wait to see that!
Agreed I think both men are really good actors and both could’ve been great. But Jamie took the role, so wether we all like it or not. He’s Jace. I am excited to see how it turns out in the end. Even if I don’t agree with a lo of pre-production stuff. The ending results. Luke be MUCH different. I wanna see it either way, and wether it’s bad or not. Either way we have our books
I decided that it won’t be the end I the world if they’re bad. Maybe for the filmmakers lol. But not for us. Flowers In The Attic’s movie was terrible and I am still a big fan of VC Andrews, right?

I agree that JCB seems to be a better actor or at least one who takes greater risks and shows more courage in the roles he chooses. Alex just seems to me to be picking very odd roles like Magic Mike and Number 4. I just like JCB more because of the choices he is making in his career and I enjoy his movies more, even Anonymous was good even though the end was a little weird!

Ugh. I literally almost threw up in my goddamn mouth when I found out who was playing Jace. I’ve always loved the Mortal Instrument series. Jace is witty, flirty, dangerous and downright sexy. Masculine, but gentle at times. Alex Pettyfer, from what I’ve seen in his movies, has pulled off all those roles (Definitely the sexy part).
Jamie Cambell Bower is gentle, yes, but too gentle. I honestly thought he was a girl when i first saw him. He messes with my eyes. He’s borderline ugly, but with blonde hair.
In conclusion, no JCB. Use Alex instead.
My own opinion: I honestly think that JCB wouldn’t be 100% Jace, but i’m ganna give him a chance.I do know that Lily Collins is perfect for the role. I’m so happy that she’s Clary!:)
I understand that JCB is a good actor, but the looks also matter. I’m not saying looks are everything but you can’t call me shallow when I say that looks are definitely major ’cause how the actor looks is definitely major when it comes to the movie. I just hope JCB doesn’t make it hard for me to go back to my own image of Jace after the movie.
When I first found out that it wasn’t going to be Alex, i was incredibly disappointed, but the more I thought about it the more i thought i was a great decision. As pretty as Alex is and as much as he looks like Jace is “supposed” too, I don’t think he has the acting range to pull off Jace’s layers.
JCB does have that range though and i’m really excited to see what he can do with this character.
Besides I think it is infantaly more important to have an actor who can do that character justice rather than just look the way the character is described. After all, even if everyone reads the same description they all imaged different things.
JCB is going to have lots of makeup on him. Just like Robert Pattison is not good looking, yet with makeup they made him look semi-good. But i also agree that he shouldn’t be jace. When you think of jace you think of someone who looks gentle yet fierce, and he just look gentle and wimpy.
JCB will be amazing. End of story.
Okay. First things first. Although JCB isn’t my and obviusly everyone else’s first choice for Jace, the producers and directors, and Cassie, obviously think that JCB is right and fits the look. And you DO realise that they can change some of his physical apperiances so he has the eyes right and the hair. he can also, work out to get the body image Jace is portrayed to have.
You never know, in the movie, JCB could be the right actor. Maybe, before you jump to conclusions about his apperiance, maybe you should wait for the finished product. And both LC and JCB are both brilliant actors. So, people. Get over it! The movie will be fantastic with the actors the ‘BIG PEOPLE’ have chosen.

I agree that Alex would be a better Jace compared to Jamie. However he isn’t doing it because he is working on his sequel to I am number 4. I was SO happy when i realized they were going to make a movie out of my most favorite book, but then when i saw that jamie was cast as jace i couldnt help but cry my eyes out because jamie looks NOTHING like the jace that i AND everyone else would have imagined. it’s NOT just ME who thinks this, all the comments above and below are proof enough. I don’t understand why people hate so much on Jamie. Alex Pettyfer is a terrible actor and I don’t find him that attractive. Have you watched any Jamie interviews? He IS Jace. There’s something about him; he is cool, relaxed, sarcastic…. And he is a wonderful actor. Besides Cassie watched his audition with Lily and she said she couldn’t have asked for a better Jace. Everyone who watched the audition said he was perfect. I’m happy with this decision.

Admin did not exactly pick the best pictures of Jamie back when this was postes. Back in May there just wasn’t a lot of pictures out there of Jamie period nevermind if any of them were good. He has gotten cuter and if you watch him in an interview and some of Camelot and if you ever watched him perform with his band Darling Buds you would see he exudes sexuality a confidence which you wouldn’t expect and it does grow on you. trust me I had my heart set on a few other actors as well but I have had almost a year to get used to it and now when I reread my books Jamie is the Jace I picture. If you loved the books you have to support the movie just to see if he can pull it off if for no other reason, but I think you will be happy in the end that you gave it a go…

I am absolutely outraged that you’d pick him, for Jace One: he looks to old, hello Jace is 17, not in his 20′s!!!! Two: he lacks the ‘break your neck, just to look at him’ quality, which is what I in visioned my Jace to be. I really like Jamie for the role. I think he really cares about his craft and the character, and really wanted to take on Jace. Which, wasn’t necessarily true about other actors that were seen. I think those are the most important things to look at. I also think he has the ability and the looks to be true to what Cassie has written. When I first saw he was cast I thought he was too slight but if he’s going to “Jace bootcamp” than I’m sure that will change. I do hope that he shortens his hair a little not for any reason but that I never pictured meticulously neat Jace with hair down to his shoulders. I always pictured it just long enough to curl around his ears and fall into his eyes.

Give him a chance, I’m sure once he’s had a make over for the role he will look more like Jace (and once he hits the gym) Cassie said she could so see him as Jace and I have to trust in the lady who wrote the books plus he was the only one concerned enough about truly becoming Jace that he asked Cassie how Jace would dress. I like that, shows he’s taking it seriously. People that tweeted him and told him he would suck at the role or did suck or said other mean things..really that is so far over the line..that is just plain mean. Give the guy a chance. I find the movies are never as good as the books but I am still stoked that my favorite books are becoming a movie. I can’t wait to see it and watch how Jamie portrays Jace (fingers crossed). Actually they did, but Daniel Radcliffe was seriously allergic to wearing contacts so they ruled it out, figured they could live without it. I think they could’ve done it digitally, but I think they found it unecessary. But I agree with you on Jace! He NEEDS gold eyes, they can’t just rule it out. Personally, I think Jamie is perfect for Jace. I didn’t at first–I don’t think anyone did–but now that he’s been cast, I can’t see anyone else as Jace! I am kind of on the fence with him. I mean he isn’t the worst Jace in the world, there were a few that were like, oh heck no, I will admit I was rooting for Pettyfer, but I actually liked Jeremy Sumpter as well, he just had that cocky grin and everything. But I am still going to see the movie because this is my all time favorite series, I just hope that they do something with that mustache, I always pictured Jace as clean shaven.

But he’s not American at all. He’s from Europe. He didn’t come to America until age 8 or 9, well into another accent by then. I love Jamies accent and can totally see Jaces dad speaking in an English accent. Im absolutely thrilled!!!!! Girls, Jace is more than just a pretty face. I have a feeling the other actors just couldn’t bring the range that Jaimie could. Have you seen him as Arthur on Camelot. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but really, it’s ridiculous to bash JCB. nobody has seen him as Jace yet. People are so focused on Alex Pettyfer, who didn’t CARE about the role and took the casting directors around in circles for months without accepting or rejecting it, and now that there’s someone genuinely passionate about playing Jace, people are acting stupid and immature about it because he’s not dumb ass Pettyfer.
People are screaming and crying about it demanding the role be given to Pettyfer when he DOESN’T. WANT. IT.

I am so bummed! I don’t see Jace in him at ALL! The guy doesn’t even look like he works out! Just probably smokes a lot to stay thin! UGH! And his hair looks like a dirty mop! Oh I really don’t think I will see the movie…. so sad. The Mortal instruments were one of my favorite book series and now they have gone and messed the movie up by messing up the one Character that was SO important to get right. I think the fans would have waited longer to see the movie if they had to wait for the right guy to be available to play Jace.

I am psyched! I wanted Jamie months ago and suggested him here and at TMI Google groups and most everyone ignored me or talked him down. When I was reading the books I pictured someone who looked like Jamie and it was only the internet that swayed me to Alex Pettyfer, but JCB fits my mind’s original image of Jace much better, more angelic and fragile. And I’m happy for Cassie that an actor she wanted for the part got it, because it would have sucked for her to promote the movie if she didn’t like who was cast for Jace.
