According to BoxOfficeMojo, and pleeenntty of other knowledgeable sources (ie Cassie Clare-who has worked in the film industry) ‘I Am Number Four’ did not gross enough in it’s opening weekend:
Among comparable Presidents’ Day weekend titles, I Am Number Four‘s first weekend was significantly worse than Jumper‘s $32.1 million as well as Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief‘s $38.7 million, and neither of those movies spawned sequels

It didnt gross enough? this movie more than quadrupled its $50 million budget.it grossed somewher aroun $156 million. with a couple hundred thousand or so extra but i dont know that amount for sure.

Well, the Percy Jackson sequel (titled Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) is releaseing nationwide on August 7th 2013, which is three years after the release of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Maybe we can see a sequel to I am Number Four in the upcoming years! It took Percy Jackson a few years for a sequel to be confirmed. We can only cross our fingers for the same to come to the Lorien Legacies!
I’ve read all the books in the series so far and I’m frankly appalled at the fact that they are not continuing with a second movie. This movie was simply incredible and I can guarantee that if they were to make movies of the second, third, and fourth book that the box office would be overloaded.

I agree! I hate the fact that it came down to money. You can’t do this to the fans! We need a sequel, but I do believe some producer will fall in love with it and make it better, just like the Superman movies. I think ‘Man of Steel’ will be the best one yet, all because someone came a long and inspired the people that right the checks to sign off on its production.
I am very disappointed in the movie developer if they dont finish the story line. I feel that its not fair to leave everyone in the edge in thinking what will happen next!! Seriously… the reviews for I am number 4 where not great… and i wont lie every scene with that glee chick made me cringe. But i want to see sequels… why do they keep having sci-fi/fantasy films where they end on a cliff hanger but then just dont make a sequel it really hurts… Push was watchable and i watched it so yes i want to know what happens next… so was the golden compass (in fact I loved it)… the lightening theif i enjoyed.. Im a sucker for kids films and sci-fi/fantasy so shoot me.

Are you all serious? I hope to god they never make a sequel to this movie. This movie is just a butchering of the book. Yes, for those of you who dont know, this was a book before it was a movie. To take a few examples of why this REALLY pissed me off while watching it, the Loric Chest. Supposed to be bigger than the one in the movie, supposed to actually be opened by both Henri and John (together), and plays a much bigger role in the book as opposed to virtually no role in the movie. John’s Lumia (which is what the glowing hands is called) is supposed to make him resistant to fire, and Six’s legacy is supposed to be invisibility (not what I am assuming is teleportation). This was a horrible movie, and as i said previously, i hope to god there never is a sequel.

Who cares if the movie doesn’t compare to the book, THEY NEVER DO. Guess what regardless if it compares or not it was a great movie, you say they butchered it, I say they made a great movie using the book and changed what THEY wanted/needed to make it more exciting for the big screen. Have I read these books? No. Will I read these book? Possibly, but only because I saw the movie and am intrigued. I’m wondering how many books have you made into movies? I’m guessing none, I’m also guessing that every time you watch a book based movie, you probably complain more than you enjoy the experience, and then you get on line to bash it because you have nothing better to do because you can’t enjoy anything without complaining about it. I’m shocked that the box office did not not as expected. The movie alone was hands down the best action I saw for the year of 2011. And you can’t compare this to Jumper or Percy Jackson. Granted Jumper should have had a sequel, and Percy wasn’t really that good, but nonetheless those three movies have nothing in common, IAN4 is in a league of it’s own. Whether it was that caused this movie not to be on top or not to break the box office but be reversed and the complete opposite must take place. If it’s promoting they need, we’ll make it happen, cause I really want to see a sequel regardless what they say, it’s about what the people want. I understand the actors need to be properly compensated, but at the end of the day, they work hard to make sure that the people are entertained.
If I’m not mistaken… didn’t Star Trek get shuffled too on its first pilot. look what happen when they aired again. i feel that it will make a great come back.

Really sad. This was a closet classic. A movie I watched not really expecting anything, but the story looked like it had a chance. As soon as I started to watch it, I was drawn into it and couldnt stop. It’s a real shame that a story this strong couldnt find a market for the sequel. Heck, it’s not like the cost would be so astronomical with Tom Cruise or Julia Roberts as the leads.
I am sad that they aren’t doing a sequel. There was very little that I didn’t like about the movie and I thought it was even better than the books (which is rare). I have heard that the sequel has been shelved so there is still some hope.
Everyone here who likes the movie more then the book has NOT read the book without a doubt. The movie was awfully fast paced and skipped some of the most important parts of the book. Plus, the only reason I can understand why people maybe enjoy the movie more then the book is taht Dianna Agron and Alex Pettyfer are in it.

i am no. 4 was one of the great movies i’ve seen..i want the sequel of it.Actually i am no. 4 was not promoted well in our country. I’ve watched it with my friends coz were just curious about it without knowing anything from it and baamm after i’ve watched the movie what i could only say was my money was all worth it or even not enough for this great movie. i may sound exaggerated but this what i really feel..hope for its movie sequel..but i find the book inconsistent with the movie..the books were great too..love the actors and actresses in the movie especially diana agron and teresa palmer..alex pettyfer was really cool too..

hahaha, you guys better make a sequal out of this movie and/or book. The books are absolutely great, i love them. As for the movie, i found it very worth while and interesting, it too was great. Not as good as the book i must add, but still an amazing movie. To say that a sequal wont be created because it didnt make a large enough of money from the movie in the first week it was released is absolutely messed up. there is going to be another percy jackson movie. it is called Percy Jackson: Sea of monsters and is set to come out in august of 2013. so there still might be hope for an I am Number 4 sequal, but i doubt it will be called I am Number 4 due to the fact that number 6 is also in it. also they need to find sams father and the other Lorics. really hope for a sequal ild even love a prequal showing everything that happened to reach that point.
I think the problem was that not enough people knew about the movie and that’s why the turnout for the first weekend wasn’t as good as they hoped. I think they’re waiting for more people to read the books before they make a sequel. The movie made almost 170 million so far including good dvd and bluray sales so I doubt that they won’t make a sequel.

I agree that it took an hour for the movie to begin interesting me…number six was the only intriguing character. Personally, as soon as his protector, Henri, dusted away in a minitwister, I figured the hottest eye candy was gone. So I’ll just have to keep watch the TV series Justified. Maybe they’ll make a sequel for I Am Number Four, but if not I won’t loose any sleep. Gotta wait for the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning on film…

This statement is wrong there were plans to be a sequel until Martin Noxon( sry of I get the first name wrong) says it has been put on the self. therefore if the fans show they want a sequel then it might happen.

The Power of Six is the book sequel being released in August 2012. They are not making another movie at this time, but they are still completing the book series. Which may explain why there is no move–the book sequels to I am Number Four hadn’t even been written yet.
So this movie costed $50 million and made $150 million.
That’s a PRETTY GOOD Return On Investment.
Why they wouldn’t make a sequel is ridiculous. The critics said it was a bad movie. This tells me that the critics are IDIOTS. Everyone else really loved this movie and wants a sequel.

i think the reason it didn’t do so good is because the book hadnt been out long and then they made the movie pretty fast. so no one knew much about it. there are alot of people now who didn’t go to the theater (like me) who waited for it to come out on dvd to see if it was any good or there where some people who had no idea what it was. i think making the second one is a great idea because i believe these are movies to be watched over and over again.

Michael Bay didn’t direct “I Am Number Four”, though he did produce it. It doesn’t appear there will even be a sequel, no matter who might have been a good choice to direct it.

There going to make a second movie but the third book isn’t being released until later this year. They can’t pop out movies before more books are written because then they will have to wait years to start the others… Making movies takes a long ass time. Writing a book takes a long ass time. If they made the 2nd movie now we’d wait at least 4 years until the third and by then they will lose there audience. Be patient guys.

This is an old story people so somebody posting a rumor that they have heard isn’t really a reliable source. The thing is this movie cost $50 million to make and has grossed over $200 million worldwide when you factor in the dvd sales ($150 million if you don’t) so clearly it made a decent profit, and because of that reason alone I would be willing to bet anything that we will see a sequel.

I just watched “I Am Number Four” on Shotime’s free preview weekend. I’ve never heard of this movie until just before it aired today. I knew nothing about its release or if it was available on DVD.
If there was ever a story line which begged for a TV series, “I Am Number Four” is the perfect example. Watching the movie it seemed so like a pilot, especially the way the movie ended.
“Smallville” ran for 10 seasons. “I Am Number Four” could easily have taken the baton for its viewers.
I don’t know about this movie but I know there is another Percy Jackson movie coming out . So you never know,there might still be another I am number 4 coming out some time

Just finished reading The Power of Six litterally minutes ago and eagerly looked up if they were going to make a movie on it. I guess I will be going to bed saddened at the fact that a great book that can capture a guy who has only read books for school is not going to be made into a movie. I was really really looking forward to the movie even halfway through the book. Maybe if comments keep get written about this topic the producers will listen and create a box office hit movie!!
The way I see it, this movie was outstanding. The characters are not as horrible as some seem to think they are. We rented this movie not thinking that it would be anything significant. I was absolutely enthralled with the whole movie. It started out at a good pace, and ended in an extremely pleasing way. Not once did I want to leave my seat while it was playing. I am even going to go out and buy it, and I hate watching a movie more than once. This movie happens to be one of the most original I have seen in quite some time. I really do hope that another is made. I think that since the movie has been out a while now that more people will know about the first, and be more anxious to find out the whold story. So while “I am Number Six,” did not make enough money, the proffits from future sequels woud more than make up for money not lost. So, I am with all of the others out there that would love to see a sequel made.
I am number four, absolutely amazing! I’m a normal 37 yr old straight male, diesel mechanic by trade. So I’m not sure what demographic I fall under. I heard once about this movie coming out, then never again! Found it on rental, had to see it, it sounded great! Promo dropped the ball huge! This movie could have easily tripled it’s opening weekend if they had a budget more than 50 bucks to promote it! All the actors were amazing (seriously hot women) great acting and effects. They’d have to be stupid not to do a sequel! I too watch it numerous times a month and watch it all the way thru, can’t stop the action! But find a way to bring back Olyphant, he’s an amazing actor, he’s like the anchor to the cast..

that movie was awesome, so what if it is like all the other super hero comic book stuff.. it was action packed and entertaining. i really do hope that they make a sequel. the way i am number four ended. it sets up beautifully to a sequel. DreamWorks get with the program and give the audience what they want.

And the story is so juvenile, it makes Twillight seem brilliant in comparison. But it’s not. Then again, I can both read and write above the 6th grade level.
Also, just so you understand how movies earn money, you must first understand that a feature film cost about as much or more to promote as it does to make. So if the film cost 50 million, the studio is probably in for at least another 50 million after worldwide promotion. And the studio probably only sees 40 cents on every box office dollar. So after investing $100 million bucks, making $144 million, the studio gets back maybe $60 million, before video rentals. Making this film a serious loser for the studio that made it.

Now why not watch something half intelligent for a change. Like The Walking Dead or Hugo or Descendants? Or even watch any of the spiderman movies again, at least those are well made and acted. Maybe your minds wil be expanded by real filmmaking.
I sooooo totally disagree with you… But opinions are opinions and I can’t do much to change yours… I thought this movie was awesome and I really wish it had a sequel. And I also love so many others that didn’t get a sequel, I just think that’s a pitty, you know? Movies like this deserve a sequel. Not to mention that if they don’t have one, you’ll be missing somethings and won’t completely understand the story.
To be true, I’d wish there was no Twilight saga and there were more sequels for movies like this. And I’m not saying I hate Twilight, it’s cool, I’ve watched all of them till now but, you know, it’s just not the same. It sucks that there is going to be no sequel to I AM NUMBER FOUR. I no that a lot of kids in my town loved it and are hoping for a sequel. I can’t believe that just because it didn’t make enough profit on it’s first weekend that they aren’t going to do another one. It shouldn’t be on the profit it makes but by how many people go and watch it and how many people hire it out or buy it. It’s Stupid and it has made me sad to say that the people who decided these things has now made a lot of people angry and sad just because they won’t do a sequel to something they think didn’t make a good enough profit for them.
Wow, so disappointed that there’s no plans for the i am number four movie sequel. just watched the blu-ray last night with the family and i have to say that it’s a rare movie that gets a thumbs-up by all in my family. I love sci-fi so I was the one who somewhat pushed my 13 year old son into selecting the title from our grocery store’s redbox. It turns out that our boys and even my husband who is not fond of sci-fi all enjoyed the movie. We were all hopeful that there’d be a sequel. I agree with another post that suggested the movie was was not adequately promoted. Unfortunately, it’s probably because of people like us that sequels to good movies don’t get made. We don’t often go to the theater. It’s too expensive for a family of 5. Now that there are no more Harry Potter films, we may never go again as a family!

I really, really, really hope DreamWorks makes a sequel to I Am Number Four. It was a great movie, plot holes aside. I do not understand why people thought Alex Pettyfer is a bad actor. He was pretty good; of course there are better actors. But he did well, and he also provided something nice to look at when Sarah was being the stereotypical, almost emotionless teenage girl. Six was a good character, even though they may have went a little overboard trying to make her “bada$$.” But her character was dug into deeper in the second book, The Power of Six. More mysteries were uncovered as well as answers to some of the existing ones. I believe the second book would make a good movie, just as long as it is followed. And they do not give Six one of John’s powers. That was the worst thing in I Am Number Four to me…giving Six the power of fireproof. In the book, John and Henri trained hard to hone in that Legacy. But whatever. It was still a great movie, one of my favorites, and the second book needs to be made into a movie, as well…Only if Alex will come back as John/Four.

If you do some research into the film you will find there is a sequal book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_of_Six) which was released in the middle of this year, So surly there will be a 2. This is such a mint film i love it

Stargate SG1 got ten years, Stargate Atlantis 5yrs. come on, this movie just didn’t get enough upfront hype, but it was superb in every way. Why do they keep making dumb sequel like Jackass, Harry Potter, Twilight, and so on..But they not making a sequel to great movies like I am Number Four, and Jumper. Well considering harry potter is the third most earned movie of all time over six billion dollars made I would say that they are FANTASTIC books and same goes for twilight! (Have you even read any of those books, or maybe you dont know how to read!)
Well to be honest if you have actually read the harry potter and twilight series then you should realise that they are not actually very good ‘books’, they are good entertainment for people to read because they are not to hard to read and they give the wanted enjoyment to the reader, but the fact is that the writing is not one of a great book. Im not saying that i dont like harry potter, because i do like it, im just saying that they are not very well writen books if you compare to some other books.
Also i would much prefer to see a ‘I Am Number Four’ sequel rather then another harry potter film!
I too would like to see a sequel to I Am Number Four, however Hollywood is not so much concerned with well written books, or stories they are more about the numbers. If a movie grossed high enough it gets a sequel, if not then it doesn’t. I am I twilifer and I went back and watched the first movie again and it was horrible to me now..go figure?? But I will still be in line to see the first and second installment of Breaking Dawn.. movies that sell tickets get made..let’s pray City of Bones does not disappoint!! We need to go out in droves and multiple times or we won’t get the rest of the installments!! We only have one shot at getting all six movies made!!! Let’s make it count!

All of these comments are valid and true. I read the book and fell in love with it and was definitely hesitant to see the movie because let’s face it, usually the books are always better. But, in this case, the movie stood by the book and didn’t blow it out of proportion. I agree that this movie is an orginal. There is nothing like this out there. A sequel should be made because it WAS A GOOD MOVIE! Between the actors, realism, and ultimately, the entire character of the movie, it was all great! Make a sequel.

This is unreal. I love these type of movies and so does my whole family in fact. Jumper was another excellent movie. And the whole reason the movie didnt make big money opening day is because there was no advertisement for it. I did not see one commercial for the movie. In fact I didnt see it till it came out on Directv’s pay per view. At least I added my contribution towards the movie since I didnt get to see it in theatres. Need a sequel badly.

I seriously doubt that any movie executive reads our comments, much less cares what the public think. Personally, I very much enjoyed “I Am Number Four,” I saw it several times and liked both the story and acting. It was a great combination of action, humor and soul. I’d love to see a sequel. If studio executives won’t give me what I want, I’ll just have to content myself with the book sequal alone.

I definitely agree that a sequel should be made. I waited forever to watch this movie because the reviews were terrible. So, my 9yr old son, talked me into renting the movie on VOD. Sometimes a movie gets a sequel based on the DVD sales as well. If it doesn’t do well at the box office but does well on DVD or Blue Ray then it will get a sequel. I think this movie defiantly deserves a sequel and will probably get one. The box office didn’t do well because a lot of people can’t afford to go now days, but if it gets a lot of DVD sales than it might get a sequel. I know I’m one of the ones who doesn’t have time to go to the theater but I’m going to buy it on DVD. I just rented it today and I loved it I will defiantly by it today as well. i am certain there will be a sequel to the movie “I am number four” as there is said to be six books in the series. the original movie was based on the first novel so there will undoubtedly be a sequel. it is also said that the second movie will be based on #4 and 6 finding #7 and succeed. i too absolutely loved this movie, i just can’t believe they ended like that it just pisses you off. i am not waiting another year for the sequel. i am going to the dreamworks studio to tell them to move their arses.

Boondock Saints did horrible in both Theaters and DVD, but yet a sequel cam out and talk of a third also, it’s what’s in style at the time, and for the people who heard I am number 4 is not having a sequel is so wrong it’s not even funny, it’s already in production, just check the web and you’d see. A number of movies people say (critics & Fan websites) they didn’t do good enough to do a squel, yet it still happens with crappy movies ect: Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, and Alone in the Dark.
Lets just hope that more people will be either hiring or buying the DVD or Blue Ray if a sequal is to happen. Remember ‘Hellboy’ when it was released a while ago,it did horrible at the box office yet when it was released on DVD, it was a major hit as people realise how good the movie was and the success of the DVD resulted to Hellboy II the Golden Army. So….spread the word people…I AM NUMBER is brillent – great cast, fantastic action scenes, simple yet strong story line that relates to all teens and adults a like, plus an excellent clever director who understands what works and what doesn’t, which is why I loved the movies so much and not to mention Teresa Palmer aka Number 6 is super beautiful and sexy and strong, totally femme fatal…girl power!!! I loved I Am Number Four, so I’m sad to hear there won’t be a sequel. In my opinion, it’s the same thing that happened with Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief. They changed a lot of what happened in the books, which disappointed people.

The movie it self was a really great movie. The BIG problem was the adverts for the movie were CRAP and the name for the movie was CRAP. if it had a catchy name and half decent adverts it would have done alot better. BUT now that heaps of people have seen it they are speading the word that is it actually good then the 2nd movie should do well. It has to have a sequel, ya cant just leave it as it is…….its like golden compass, now that was a crap movie but we will never find out the ending, i hate that.

the percy jackson movie sucked you should read the book and then watch it you will notice alot is missing in the story
All movies do that with books. it kind of sucks in general. BUT it is possible to make a film just as good as the books, it takes true good directors to figure it out. and most movies have directors that just want to blow shit up throughout the movie. Like Lord Of The Rings was excellent, and they left stuff out, but it was necessary and it didn’t mess up pacing for the film. Like Eragon, I never read the books and yet I could obviously tell they skipped MAJOR points in that movie. You’re audience isn’t suppose to be able to tell that! Lord Of The Rings production was excellant, I never felt like anything was missing while watching them. The only thing that bothered me was the ending of Return Of The King, they went home and everyone at Hobiton was like normal and happy. Almost as if they had no clue that their world was going to end, and that these four hobits changed their lives. When in fact in the books when they went home, they had to fight to get their home back. And rebuild hobiton, because the Orcs had destroyed it. That was the ONLY problem I had, throughout three films. I LOVE Harry Potter to death, but most of those movies just DON’T do the books justice… at all! And to be honest. I don’t like any of the director’s they’ve experienced except for the first two, which were done by Chris Columbus, and he is an awesome director. BUt after he left they went through directors like water. I don’t think that’s healthy for a production to constantly change directors since every director has their own style of work. And you can CLEARLY see the change in each HP film. Like I said before, it is NOT suppose to be that obvious. It means bad editing, which also means poor production. Sorry…

I saw this movie twice and loved it. The only reason this movie failed is because of the poor marketing. They should make a sequel and hire a new marketing company. It had a good story, great music and great actors, so look at yourselves marketing “gurus” as to why the movie failed, and not the box office results. Bring on the power of six!
How about next time they let some time pass between the release of the book and the movie so it has some time to build up a fan base! I would love to see a sequel to this movie and will be disappointed if there isn’t one. I guess I will just have to read the next book.
I dont go to the movie theaters a lot but I have to say that the previews did look stupid. At first i thought this movie must be stupid with all those kids acting, but tonight i was bored and i watched the movie. The movie kept me guessing and i couldnt walk away from my tv. This movie surprising blew me away, it was great. I didnt want the movie to end, but when it did i asked myself there must be a sequel. They cant end a movie liked they did. This movie was nothing like any others. Coming from a 16 yr old i really enjoyed this movie, and if there is another movie coming out or being written, I WILL WATCH IT IN THEATERS. I HOPE THERE IS ANOTHER ONE TO COME..PEOPLE WILL BE VERY DISSAPOINTED….AND THERE WILL BE BETTER NUMBERS AT THE BOX OFFICE AND THERE WILL BE A LOT MORE TO COME AND SEE… THEY JUST NEED TO SEE THE FIRST ONE ( “I AM NUMBER FOUR” ).

This film completely blew my expectations out of the water. Wow. Honestly, I’m praying they will make a sequel! Though late, I think this film is finally getting the attention it deserves. Awesome, enticing, thrilling action sequences! The only thing this film could’ve have improved upon would be the trailer and the promoting of it. I would’ve definitely gone to see it in theaters, but I literally heard very little about it prior to seeing it on DVD. If the sequel came out in theaters, I would take all of my friends, no question about it!

Well I loved I am number 4, jumper and percy jackson. As for the sequel, percy jackson AND jumper both have a sequel in the works, so im really hoping the Power of Six, the second book to I am number 4, will also be made into a movie.
It may not have grossed that much but because of everyone’s reaction to it, a sequel may still be made because of the heightened expectation there is now. So many people loved this movie and I was one of them. The makers of the film will be looking around at comments such as these and realise that making a sequel may not be such a bad idea and may even gross more money than the first. So, don’t be discouraged yet. =)
I just watched I am Number Four and I thought it was an awesome movie! I hope that all this stuff about there not being a sequel isn’t true! I’d be at opening night. They most not have done a good job promoting this because it was just as good as Twilight!
I just finished watching it, I was surprised, I thought it was going to suck, Man that was a great film! It had all the elements needed for a great film and they didn’t over do the CGI, It was perfect!
Why would you set the film up for a sequel and not do one? You can tell between editing and the writers, They intentionally set this film up for another one. I say its going to happen.

I am (number) 57 (years old) with college kids. I do enjoy Sci-fi; have since I was a teenager watching the original Star Trek TV Series in the Sixties. So, with that in mind, yes, there really needs to be a trilogy; not just a sequel. But what about a Television Series??? Get into Character development and pursue the plot to it’s end?? Either way, good story; deserving of more consideration.
I LOVE this movie and the book. I loved the movie more. I watched it in the theater 2 times and at home 2 times. I am going to buy the blu ray and dvd and probably digital copy. I found this movie so amazing the way they portrayed both the high school life and the life as an outcast in society at the same time made you really think back to how you felt at that time in your life and how hard it was going through those changes. They then took it a step further showing how it was even harder for him i thought this movie made you really think about yourself but at the same time added all the excitement of an action movie like it should. I really hope that the director and producers reconsider making a sequel to this film because even if it is half as good as this one i am most certainly willing to pay the price to see it in theaters.
This is sad news. I thought I Am Number Four had a good premesis and an interesting hook for the beginning. I guess it was kind of an alien Twilight, but had a more timeless mythological quality.
I think the Twilight series is stupid. Ive hated this trend of making vampires into ultimate badboys… vampires are monsters who suck your blood to fuel thier own selfish, endless lives (like in the new Fright Night). These Twilight vampires are sooo scary, they sparkle like discoballs in sunlight and play superpowered baseball out of boredom or something. And anyone staying in highschool for two hundred years and who still has something meaninful to say to a 16 year old is socially and probably mentally defective. (Sorry, somehow all that just slipped out of me… heh.)
Suffice to say I am not in the target audience by decades, but I Am Number Four was interesting and accessable to me. It might have been a little predictable, but what good story isnt based on Mythology or themes which humanity hasnt expounded on over our thousands of years of history. For example, the Obi Won character had to die, I saw that comming. So if you put Race to Witch Mountain and Percy Jackson and some teenager X-Men into a blender, you could probably geneticly whip up a slurry of this kind of movie. That doesnt detract from its quality or its timelessness. Or its movie craft quality, which has exceptional special effects and bears the fingerprints of Stephen Speilburg and Micheal Bay.
This movie made a lot more money overseas, especially China, than it did in the states. Over here, with the recession and concession stand prices and our bitter Twilight aftertaste, perhaps Americans didnt support it as much as they should have. Its all a numbers game and everything is all about the bottom line. I think Hollywood needs to focus more on the big picture, the global one. People will buy this movie and discover it over time, and because of its incredible special effects will watch it on movie channels and rent it from video stores continuing to generate revenue. To dismiss it entirely because its openning week wasnt as big as Jumper or Unknown is terribly shortsighted. We are Americans, though. Shortsighted is what we do best sometimes.

I found the movie great, watched it twice in fact. I perfer to watch the movies at home. Do not go to the theatre at all. If they were wondering why it did not make the quota, maybe they should have advertised the movie more. The only time I seen it was on a preview of another movie 2 weeks ago, never heard of it before. I would love to see the sequels, might even go to the theatre for it.

Ok so totally pissed… this movie was great it had all the the great things that people appreciate about a movie. So wen I googled to see if there was sequel and found out um…like i stated I was am or whatever I pissed. I liked the movie because it kept you wonder if made you feel something and it had the superman herorics that make you fall in love with the character. I also enjoyed the fact that number 6 was a girl. I thnk her name was teresa, she carried her role as number six perfectly…great job with the casting..she tough, and couragous and I thought that you could see that she too had a softer side. I would love to see how her character developes in the next movie. Let talk about same not this kid did great he had all the tools required to become a side kick. I loved that he came into his own later in the movie. I didn’t know that his role would be so imparative to the movie. What to say about number four let’s say hot… to he manage to give you insite into how eing here on earth made him open to all the human emotions…which I loved and too he also stuggled with the same issues as most teens fact today. I love that dual bad guys. That football dude what great as playing that jock we love to hate in high school but deep down inside we all know if push comes to shove he is not going to do anything. Ok so you get it loved the movie..so what you people in hollywood should do is create the sequal you will really please the people who keep your pockets laced with all that cash. I’m isn’t that what your suppose to do keep the fans happy. So what is first week out it didn’t do so well but that is mainly your fauld not enough publicty and two timing but who am I a mere person who happen to come accross a great DVD becauce prior to the cover never heard of the movie and I’m a pretty big movie girl. They make sure those twilight kids get their stuff out everywhere why not this…and I am also a fan of that so do what is best for mankind make the damn sequel……because we need to know how our wourld ends. i love “i am number four” i watched it 5 times in less than a month. i decided to read the book and i fell in love with the characters, Lorien, and the story. There has to be a sequel for the second book “the power of six” which comes out august 23rd 2011. If there is a sequel (which there should be), i would love to audition for the movie, i mean its worth a try right? life’s about risks and doing a movie would be so freaking amazing. my husband and i have very different tastes in movies from our 16yr old daughter. we all liked the movie and to find out that there is going to be no sequel is a shock.there have been plenty of movies that i thought should not have had a sequel that did. it is a shame .
One of the best movies I have seen in a while. My grandpa and I rented it and Loved it , It left you hanging to know what happens next though , There needs to be another one.
My fiance’ and I saw “I am Number Four” at the the theater and loved it, promised ourselves that we would add it to our very extensive DVD collection which we have done. I do not care about who wrote it or created it, I only care that it is an outstanding film. Yes, the cost of going to the theater is prohibitive, but there are ways to ease the cost. Can we say Matinee’s?
Because if the way this film ended, there is a definite imperative to finish meeting the rest of the hidden away youngsters. The first three died because they were cloistered. Four & Six survived because they came together. Having said that, they need to find the others so that they may stop this very destructive race from destroying our very beautiful home.

You can’t just leave the ending open for a sequel and then not make one… not only me but many others here in the rouge valley loved the movie. i did the exact same thing as many people here have done . I rented the movie when it was over i ran to the computer to see when the sequel was coming out. Today i can not afford to pay 11 dollars to go to the movies i have been laid off to long, redbox is where i have to see them. I do hope that they take the economy into thier figures . Harry Potter is the only movie that i have gone to the theaters to see and that was because that is what my daughter wanted for her birthday. i do hope that they make the power of six into a movie . and if they do release it next year lol i will most certainly go to the theater to see it
It’s better to decide that there will be no continuation and have it happen, than to decide that there will be one and cancel it in the end. Keep up the reviews everyone, this is what makes it happen.
Since the production of these movies require so much revenue, it only makes it harder for the producers to believe that the movie is worth creating. This is where the viewer’s opinions are necessary. If we support the work of the directors, producers, and actors then the industry will be more inclined to follow through. Sorry for the obviousness of my message, but it should be even more obvious that this movie will be made into a sequal. Mainly based on viewer reviews. Though sometimes, there are more important ideas to spread.

This movie was really good and I think they must make another one. The only way they could make a sequal though would be if this actor in the movie somehow blows up and gets some better recognition like that Twlight Pattinson kid. I can say the movie Beastily did not help his cause at all. That or they need to bring a few big name actors in to play minor rolls. Something that will draw an audience out. If it does well with DVD sales, it could get a less budgeted sequal.
This truly was an awesome movie!! We’ve watched it three times now, will be going out to buy the book tonight, purchasing the movie since it’s a favorite and will hope someone sees this was a huge sleeper in the box office, with people dying to see a sequel. Such a disservice to leave this intriguing story line hanging. The third time we watched it we had six people running for the computer to see when the next book/movie was anticipated.

As I read through all the comments I relate to all of them. Heard nothing about the movie until tonight when wife brought it home from rEdbOx. Watched it as a family, Wife and I in our 30′s, oldest 11, youngest 7. Now the kids usually fight and play DS while we yell at them to be quiet so we can watch the movie. “Just leave if you don’t want to watch the movie, don’t make it miserable for us.” Lol, exact dialogue. However the kids didn’t make a peep, they loved it and asked when the next one was coming out, the question which brought us online. -I know right you read three of these reviews you don’t need to read the rest.
I noticed some comparing it to twilight. Now I mildly like twilight but this movie is just better. It is not forced upon you through filming stylization that it’s going to be an “epic” movie that you are supposed to love. It was not pretentious, and was pulled off wonderfully through clear and well paced story telling. Original and interesting. Character development is so smooth we need a sequel indeed. Sad I missed it in the theaters, yes it was definitely a marketing fail. Not even cheap facebook adds, really? Come on. I guess the producers didn’t want to make any money.
So really, lets see some more installments in this franchise please. Don’t doom us to nothing but marvel and revivals for the next 10 years.

Never saw a trailer for I Am Number Four; just heard about it from my nephew and was pretty impressed. I totally agree that they shouldn’t base movie success by boxoffice sales anymore; the theater is ridiculously overpriced! Most of us are patient enough to wait it out until we can enjoy a movie for a tenth of the price by renting it at Redbox, especially if we haven’t heard much about it beforehand. All that to say, totally enjoyed this movie and would absolutely love a sequel…might even suck it up and see it in the theater. Great storyline that totally had me hooked.
just finished watching the movie, its was a group event between family and friends, every age group from ages 6-63, at the end we all were grouped around a laptop trying to find out when the next installment of one of the best movies we ever watched, would be coming to the big screen so we could all go together n watch it in the theaters, and just as many others we were all disappointed. Hollywood keeps releasing movies we watch because we mostly dont have a better option, but when they gte an accidental hit, one that slips through opening weekend and the big screen as not alot of folks knew about it, they decide to close it up, rather than roll the dice, i know 42 ppl that watched it this evening that would pay to see the sequel, many of us not even sci-fi fans, And hollywood wonders why more and more people are turning off Shows / movies and playing video games, i truly hope they look at the numbers of rentals and pay per views and DVD sales as tbh none of us heard about “I am number four” until one of my nephews asked if we could watch it on movie night. Maybe a bit more advertising and they would have hit the “numbers” they wanted to see for the sequel lol….thanks for a great movie, and i truly hope someone somewhere sees these posts n reconsiders the sequal…..
This is the first I ever heard of I am number four. Just finished watching it and want to see the next in the series meaning -Please make the darn movie and stop making it about the money. It’s about pleasing the fans and for entertainment. Finally an awesome movie I never ever heard of comes out and its fantastic plot and leaves you wanting more. Bring us more. It will definitely come around like the twilight saga. Not enough advertising was done, because I am not the only one who didn’t even know anything about the movie. A fan wanting more…. Come on producers… this will take off like twilight…. Advertise better next time… Its a hit
That was a pretty great freaking movie! It was like watching my first episode of Heroes (also bummed that went off that air)… I wanted to watch more! I wanted to see how it turned out without have to read it. Maybe if rental/movie sales go up, they will consider another installment. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

When I saw this movie was coming out, I was very excited to go and see it. I was unable to see it until it came out to the cheaper theatres but when I saw it, I loved it. I went back and saw it two more times. I will be very bummed if a sequel does not come out. I agree with the person that wrote “wish it wouldn’t be all about the $$” because out in the real world to children, the concept of money is not yet grasped by their developing minds. To them, not coming out with a sequel ends their enjoyment out of the movie because, especially with “I Am Number Four”, they will always wonder what happens to Sam, Number 4, and Number 6. I believe it would be wise to come out with a sequel, because I can guarantee that I for one will see it more than once and I am sure there are many other’s that look forward to following this adventure and see where it leads these three characters.
They have scheduled production for the percy jackson sequel; its due out summer 2012. So, money isn’t everything. There’s still hope for The Power of Six. As for a television adaptation, SyFy isn’t the answer for everything! In fact, its the place where good films go to make crappy TV sequels. They never make good TV movies

I just saw this movie on DVD. It way exceeded my expectations. I normally watch these type of movies for fun. This got me interested in the characters and plot right away. I am sorry I did not see it on the big screen. I am hoping for a sequel. There was only one negative comment on this post that I saw, no real reason just the usual junk which leads me to believe this person did not even watch the entire movie. I’ve seen that a lot with people who criticize like that. They do-not give definite reasons – oh they will say ‘bad acting’ (what sci-fi/action flick had good acting… I never saw Jean-Claude Van Dam getting any acting awards). I look at the entire picture – I know from experience that the acting in these kinds of films are not great, but I look to story line, I look to special effects, I look at Continuity, etc.) Oh yeah… Someone noted above that Dianna Agron was only 17 – incorrect, she was born in April of 1986 thus making here 25 years old, not 17. She plays a 17 year old on Glee… Most of the time the actors are older than their character. (All the characters on Glee by the way are in their 20s) I am hopeful that there will be a sequel. If there is enough sales on the DVDs then that is one indication.

Just saw this movie. Remembered it when I saw the trailer and decided to watch it. It was awesome. I went straight to the web to see when the next one would be out. Was bummed when I saw that the plans for the next one were on hold. This story needs to continue. It was great.
Just saw the movie and it was way better than I thought it was going to be. I liked the actors in the movie but maybe it would have did better at the box office if more high profile actors would have been in the movie. I hope they make a second film. Maybe SYFY will pick it up and make a TV show out of it if they dont do a second movie.

I think this would do better as a T.V. series, perhaps on the Sci-Fi channel. I was an ok movie but there is alot to be explained and understood and all to often that can get lost in a movie.

I wait for movies to come out on dvd now, loved I am number four…I think it would be a mistake not to make a sequel, I know alot of people like me wait for dvd now and who also really enjoyed the movie. We need some hero and adventure type movies, especailly these days.
I never read the books, and when i saw the trailers for the movie I thought that the CG looked cool, but ultimately I snubbed it because I thought that it would be too immature and teeny stupid to be any good… however, itching to see a movie one crappy wisconsin winter weekend i suggested to my husband and my almost 60 year old dad (who likes sci-fi stuff)that we should see it at budget… all three of us came out of the movie loving it. it was a surprise to us that it was really good. and not just a CG fluffed boring movie (I like it better than Transformers) its sad to know that they are not going to be makeing any sequels… but at least more books are being made, and i am always interested in a good story… so I’m p!ssed that they aren’t making a sequel to such movies as “I AM NUMBER FOUR” and “PERCY JACKSON”… oh well

This is a big mistake on Hollywood’s part if they don’t do a sequel to this one. It has all the elements of X-Men cmbined with Independence Day. The storyline is a more mature version of Race to Witch Mountain and the bad guys a lot more real. Some more visionary producer/director like Speilberg or Lucas or even Jackson should really look at the long term value. This could go bigger than Harry Potter if done right!
Wow, they better make a second movie. I thought this movie was outstanding and i need to see a second one… The ending was left in a way that they have to make it. I am number four, is actually my favorite movie that i have seen this year. I will be very disappointed if there is no sequal

Amazing that Hollywood comes up with something new and then drops it. Maybe consentrating on Good stories like this one and less on gimmicks like 3D would bring more people out to the movies. Jumper needs a sequil as well!

actually, I thought the movie was actually pretty crappy until he met number six… then there was more action. Oh and one more thing! the reason why people watch movies online from their computer is that going to the movies and even renting or buying it is too expensive and not worth it if u don’t know if the movies good!!! I watch all my movies online… i own a few but usually i just use the best site in the world to watch my movies. So yeah, the movie theatres cost too much and thats why good movies don’t always get sequels… i mean, some of them do like harry potter, transformers, iron man, etc.

I loved this movie. I am going to buy the DVD so I can enjoy it at home. I agree with the comments about the econ. being bad and thats why people won’t go see a movie. They make sequals out of movies that don’t even deserve to be on the big screen in the first place but they won’t give a movie like this one a second chance. Another thing hurting movie sales now is that people are getting copies free online from people who film them or get pirated copies. So that takes away from sales. They need to do something about that and fix the issue.

I actually it was great! at the end of the movie where he finally do something awesome, but it would be more awesome or great if you will add some further story that will tell the viewers about the story of the guardians!

actually i really did like the movie the acting was pretty awful (as in the main character) he really was bad but the characters did slowly start to grow on me i think they jumped through it to fast not enough plot but i thought the best friend/geek was very good timothy olyphant is always good i know the one who played #6 is a good actress just didnt have enough dialog in this one i just like the fact that it reminded me of one of those sci fi films u watched when u were a kid kinda Disney but for an older crowd (teen movie and yes i know disney did release it) but even the main character kinda grows on u i think he’ll be better in the next one and i do think there will be a sequel probably a few really just cuz of the books kinda like the potter movies just not as popular (and not as corny either not a fan of harry lol) but time will tell i’d be very surprised if they didnt make at least 2 more

DUDE! So true!!! I wait almost ALL the time for movies to go to saver theater where I live. They only charge TWO BUCS a ticket. I went and saw Charlie St CLoud by myself just because 2 bucs was hard to resist. I hate spending 20 dollars to go see a movie with a friend. When now I can spend only 4 bucs to see a movie with a friend. How badass is that?!?!

And what I think of movies like these is; 1. I do not see it for acting, art, or for the pleasure of a well-made film. These are one of the ones I just go see for fun. It’s like saying you like Star Wars for the acting. Like get real. And I am a gigantic Star Wars nerd. But I love those movies for how fun they are to watch not because they were so beautifully made like Schindler’s List, or The Color Purple. Same with horror films, they all generally suck, but I can’t help but enjoy watching them. So I just think it’s kind of dumb to really analyze a movie like this. It was good, but it wasn’t great either. *shrugs*

I looked up the box office results for the movie and what I found looked pretty good. I see no reason for there not to be a sequel. As much as I hate James Frey and all he touches, I did like this movie and look for to the next installment. Here’s what I found:

Number four got a slow start at the theaters but once you watch it you’re hooked! I waited to see it at home and I want more. They did a beautiful job setting it up for a sequal and in my opinion with the same case,director and writers it should be a home run. Why won’t they listen to their customers? We play the bills,make it possible for them to make movies so why shouldn’t they listen to what WE want.

I loved this movie..and iam so tired of great movies being made with NO sequel like this one and lets not forget The Golden Compass..but iam soooo sure there will be a part two to the crap movie Skyline. I feel Hollywood owes us satisfaction when they make so much off us in the first place.
Absolutely loved this movie. Wishing I could jump into a time machine just to see if there are more in the future but just wishing for now. Cast is pretty awesome and dying to see more numbers. Fingers and toes crossed.

There should be a sequel. This was a good movie. Slow starter but totally worth the watching. What a great cliffhanger. Keep it going. I saw another post about Percy Jackson. That was another good movie that deserves another look. Sometimes the movies that are just crap that u can’t take your family to are what gets the focus. Thats a shame. The reason this movie did not do good on opening weekend had to be due to the previews/trailers it did not look like a good movie at all. Wow was I ever surprised when I saw it. I never would have seen this movie if it were not for going to watch Beastly and thinking hey what else has this actor done. I am Number Four, is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I really hope there is a sequel this movie was just incredible from start to finish. I want to read the books but I was waiting to see the movies first. Get the word out this movie is awesome and buy the DVD. Anyone know how to contact a studio directly and let them know a movie is worth it other than calling them? Ok people i loved i am number four as much as the next person and i have heard from so many people different answers on whether there ia a sequal or not. Just think posative and dont listen to anyone else because truthfully they are just telling you what they think….. they dont acually know. So what if the movie started off with not as much money as everyone hoped …. every movie starts off that way! I just saw the movie, of course having read the book before seeing the movie i am tad bit upset, didn’t play out the way i wished it would have. A lot of the things i would have loved to see weren’t shown, The training number four did and all of the contents of the box.. and the flashbacks! would have loved to see those but its a movie cant expect much from it… debacle of the sequel i agree they cant make a movie if the book isn’t even out yet but they have already bought the rights to all six books and they cast has already signed contracts for any upcoming sequels. Just because the first one didn’t do that well in box offices doesn’t mean they second one wont after all look at the twilight saga the first one sucked monkey butt! But they continued to make them and sooner than later the money came, whatever that’s how the cookie crumbles apparently. But as for me i hope they do continue on with the talks of the movie cause i see great things coming from this series! And i hope seeing as Micheal Bay was such a fan of the first book that he does sign on for the remaining of the series! Toodles*

There cannot be a sequel yet because the book sequel is not even being released until August of 2011. They can’t make the movie without the story but the studios have ready purchased the rights to future novels!

I’m disappointed there won’t be a sequel, but I’m still hoping. Although the studio might be at fault for the lower ticket numbers. They had so many free screens of the movie prior to its release (granted there weren’t very many people at the free screening I attended). While yes it does build hype for those who saw and enjoyed it, but I think those people are less inclined to go pay to see the movie again. I know I haven’t…..

This sucks. I really liked this movie and I thought a second would be great. Though, Sea of Monsters (the next book in the Percy Jackson series) is in the development stage from what I’ve read. It’s on Logan’s IMDb page (from somebody who actually works in the business – he’s always been very reliable). So maybe (seeing as this isn’t officially confirmed, right?) there will be a sequel? Just thinking positive.
Bummer. I luvd I Am Number Four. I heard that after the 2nd Narnia, it didn’t do so well, so there was going to be no more. But the 3rd one came out last year. So, who knows … hopeful thinking.
